How they actually differ

Both families are hyaluronic acid, so every difference comes from how the gel is manufactured. Allergan's Vycross process blends high and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid and cross-links it efficiently at a relatively low HA concentration. That yields a smooth, cohesive gel which spreads evenly through tissue and resists breakdown, and it is where the long duration claims originate. The same chemistry pulls water, which is why Vycross lips often look considerably larger on day three than they do at week three.

Galderma runs two processes instead. NASHA leaves the hyaluronic acid minimally modified and particulate, producing a high-G-prime gel that resists deformation. Put plainly, it pushes tissue outward rather than settling into it, which is what a jawline or a chin needs. XpresHAn, sold as the OBT line, is deliberately more flexible so it moves with expression — the reason Kysse tends to read naturally in lips that are constantly in motion.

In practice this maps cleanly onto areas. Voluma projects a cheek using less product than most competitors. Volux is Allergan's firmest gel and its answer for the jawline; Restylane Contour and Defyne cover similar ground with a different feel. Beneath the eye, many injectors deliberately avoid strongly water-loving gels, because retained fluid there presents as lasting puffiness, and reach for Restylane-L or another low-viscosity option. On complications, delayed-onset nodules — firm lumps surfacing weeks or months later, often after an illness or vaccination — have been reported more frequently with Vycross products. They usually settle with steroids or hyaluronidase, but they are a genuine consideration if you dislike surprises.

Lips deserve their own note, because that is where brand choice is most visible. Juvederm Ultra XC and Volbella build fullness quickly and forgive slightly imprecise placement, but a lip treated with a Vycross gel on a Thursday will not look like the final result until the following weekend. Restylane Kysse was designed around movement, and injectors who favour it usually cite how it behaves when a patient smiles rather than how it looks at rest. Neither is more natural in the abstract; the natural-looking outcome comes from volume restraint, and both brands can be overfilled into obviousness.

Duration also behaves differently by site than the marketing implies. A gel placed on bone in a low-movement area, such as the mid-cheek or chin, consistently outlasts the same gel placed in the lips, where constant muscle action and rich blood supply accelerate breakdown. When a brand quotes an upper limit, that figure comes from the friendliest anatomy on the label, not from your lips.

What each one costs

Both brands are sold by the syringe, and the number that matters is total syringes rather than the price of one. A cheek correction that shows up in photographs is rarely a single syringe, so a quote for "one syringe" and a quote for "however many it takes" are not comparable products. Ask for the expected total before you sit down.

Because a deep cheek placement can hold for a year or two while lips typically need attention inside twelve months, a face treated in several areas will not fall due all at once. Who should choose which

Choose Juvederm if you want soft, well-blended volume through the cheeks or temples, you like a fuller lip, you are not working to a deadline, and you can live with a week of visible swelling. Choose Restylane if your skin is thin, you want crisper definition along the chin or jaw, you are being treated under the eyes, you have an event inside two weeks, or you swell dramatically after any injection. The NASHA gels hold their shape and pull less fluid, so there is less day-three drama. The trade-off is that a firm gel placed too superficially can be seen or felt, so this family rewards a precise injector and punishes a rushed one.

Choose neither yet if what bothers you is skin laxity rather than lost volume. Filler restores structure; it does not tighten. Someone whose main complaint is crepey texture or a soft jawline caused by loose skin will spend meaningfully on gel and come away disappointed, and the honest answer from a good injector is a referral for an energy-based or surgical option instead.
