Choosing a Med Spa in Florida for Botox and Fillers

The short answer

In Florida, injecting neurotoxins and fillers is the practice of medicine, so the first three questions are who holds the syringe, which physician supervises them, and how the clinic is licensed. Product line, pricing model and follow-up policy come next. A clinic that answers all five plainly is usually the right one.

Know the types

Neurotoxins. Botox, Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau and Daxxify all relax the muscle that creases the skin above it, and all are dosed in units. The units are not interchangeable between brands — a Dysport dose is numerically larger than a Botox dose for the same effect — which is precisely why per-unit quotes across brands cannot be compared without asking what dose the injector plans to use. Onset ranges from two to four days for Dysport to four to seven for Botox, and duration for most people runs three to four months.

Hyaluronic acid fillers. Juvederm, Restylane, RHA and Belotero are gels of differing thickness placed to restore volume rather than to relax movement. Their defining safety advantage is reversibility: hyaluronidase dissolves them, which matters both for a result you dislike and for the rare vascular emergency.

Biostimulators. Sculptra and Radiesse work by provoking your own collagen over months instead of adding immediate volume. They last longer than hyaluronic acid gels and are not reversible, so they are a poor first injectable for someone still deciding what they want.

The staffing question underneath all of it. In Florida, physicians, physician assistants and advanced practice registered nurses may inject within their scope, and registered nurses may inject under physician supervision and an established protocol. Estheticians and medical assistants may not. Ask for the injector's license type by name, not for their years of experience.

How to vet a Florida med spa

Ask who the medical director is and how often they are on site. A named physician who is reachable during treatment hours is the point of the role. A director listed on paperwork who has never met the staff is not.

Ask about clinic licensing. Florida regulates many med spas under the Health Care Clinic Act through the Agency for Health Care Administration, with an exemption path for practices wholly owned by licensed physicians. Either answer is fine; being unable to answer is not.

Ask to see the box. Genuine product arrives in sealed, labeled packaging from a US distributor. A clinic that reconstitutes in front of you, or will show you the vial and lot number on request, is demonstrating the thing that counterfeit and gray-market product cannot.

Ask whether hyaluronidase is stocked on site. Any clinic placing hyaluronic acid filler should have it in the building and a written protocol for vascular occlusion. This is the single best signal of a clinic that has planned for a bad day.

Insist the consultation is with the injector. Facial assessment is the skill you are buying. A consultation run by a sales coordinator who then hands you off is a structural warning sign, as is any pressure to buy a package before you have been examined.

Look at their own before-and-after photos. Same lighting, same angle, unretouched, and of patients they treated. Stock imagery on a med spa site tells you about their marketing budget and nothing about their injector.

What it costs

Neurotoxin is billed per unit, and per unit is the number to ask for. Across the five Florida med spas in our price data, the median is $11 per unit, with quotes clustering between $10 and $11.50. Your total is that figure multiplied by dose, so the dose is the variable that actually decides your bill: glabellar lines commonly take around 20 units, and treating the forehead or crow's feet adds to that. Be wary of a low per-unit price paired with an unusually large recommended dose, and equally wary of a flat per-area price that hides how many units you received.

Aftercare and follow-up

Neurotoxin, first 24 hours. Stay upright for four hours, skip the gym that day, and do not rub or massage the treated area — pressure can move product into muscles you did not intend to relax. Facials, saunas and headstands wait a day.

Neurotoxin, days three to fourteen. Movement softens gradually from day three or four and reaches full effect around day ten to fourteen. Judge the result at two weeks, not at day four. A good clinic includes a two-week review visit and adjusts small asymmetries then; ask whether that visit is included before you book.

Filler, first week. Swelling peaks at 24 to 72 hours and mostly settles within a week; bruising can take up to two. Sleep with your head elevated for two or three nights, hold off on strenuous exercise for 24 to 48 hours, and postpone dental work for two weeks. Final settled shape is at about four weeks, which is when a touch-up should be assessed.

Know the emergency signs. Blanching or dusky, mottled skin, disproportionate pain, or any vision change after filler needs an immediate call to the clinic, not a wait-and-see. This is why you asked about hyaluronidase.
